Fun at Home

In the midst of planning our upcoming journey 'round the world, I've had to remember that there are still plenty of fun things we can and should be doing right here at home. After all, it's going to be about three years until we can take off for parts unknown. We're not going to sit at home and twiddle our thumbs until it's time to hit the road.

With that in mind, I bundled up the kids and headed to the Downtown Evansville Farmer's Market last Friday. It was a perfect day; the sun was shining, but it was chilly and you could smell fall in the air.

The first booth we stopped at was Joe Engelbrecht's. We loaded up the stroller with caramel apples and a gallon jug of cider. The kids ate the apples before we left, with sticky candy and juice running down their chins. It was perfect.

At another booth we picked up a cookie for Aidan, who doesn't yet have enough teeth to handle a caramel apple, although he looked willing to try. We also got a bag of dog treats for Gage from Bears Bone Bakery. The samples he had smelled like real peanut butter cookies...I had to keep reminding myself they're for the dog.

Finding the balance between living in the present and planning for the future has been a little difficult lately. Since committing to this plan, it seems all I can think about is getting on the road, what it's going to be like to live in an RV, all the places we'll see and things we'll do. Slowing down, breathing, and pulling myself back into the present can be hard, but it's always worth it. I'm not willing to miss out on today in order to plan for tomorrow.
